Toshiba Launches New P-Channel MOSFETs Designed for Use in the Automotive Industry
Toshiba Electronics has announced the addition of two new -60 V P-channel MOSFETs, leveraging their proprietary U-MOS VI technology, to extend their portfolio of components optimized for automotive use, including load switches, semiconductor relays, and motor controllers.
The freshly introduced XPH8R316MC and XPH13016MC models have achieved compliance with AEC-Q101 standards, a mark of automotive-grade reliability. Encased in SOP Advance(WF) packaging—characterized by a wettable flank terminal design—they enable automated optical inspection (AOI) of solder connections, a crucial factor for enduring the demanding conditions of automotive applications. The inclusion of copper connections within the package also enhances electrical conductivity, boosting efficiency, and minimizing thermal accumulation.
In terms of performance, the XPH8R316MC boasts a continuous drain current (ID) rating of -90 A, while the XPH13016MC has a rating of -60 A. Their pulsed drain current (IDP) capabilities are twice as much, at -180 A and -120 A, respectively. Both units can handle a drain-source voltage (VDSS) of -60 V and operate at channel temperatures (Tch) as high as 175ºC.
Remarkably, the XPH8R316MC offers a maximum drain-source on-resistance (RDS(ON)) of 8.3 mΩ, cutting down the value by approximately 25% compared to Toshiba’s previous model, TPCA8123. For the XPH13016MC, the RDS(ON) is at 12.9 mΩ, approximately 49% lower than that of the TPCA8125—delivering a substantial reduction in power loss for automotive systems.
